As we begin the school year, we want to take the opportunity to make sure you’re aware of our latest happenings and plans.

New group classes.
We’re adding new group classes. Every second and fourth Tuesday and Thursday of the month we start an hour class at 8pm. Tuesday we meet to share songs and stories with acoustic guitars, Thursday’s electric blues, rock and standards!

Quartets
The second classical guitar quartet has begun practicing. They started off with a bang and both quartets will be giving a performance on Saturday, December 4th, kicking off the Christmas season. Mark your calendar, there will be limited seating.

Children’s Classical Guitar Quartets are extremely rare in the U.S.A. and we hope to expand on this concept in the future as it’s profoundly powerful for developing musicianship. The challenge lies in providing scores that are level appropriate and in making all the hard work into fun. If you’d like more information about guitar quartets please don’t hesitate to contact J. Shelby.

Tone Deaf Sing Class
Can you clear a room with your singing? Do dogs and coyotes join when you sing?
The Tone Deaf Singing Class begins this month on Friday, August 27 at 7:30pm. This one hour class runs nine weeks and is oriented toward those individuals who’d like to sing but think they can’t. There’s no such thing as tone deafness and we’ll prove it. The class will give participants an overview of the twelve tone system used in our culture and how it developed. Call J. at 707 344 0724 for more information.

Guitars? In The Class Room?
You better believe it! As guitar is the most popular instrument in the world it’s becoming more important to include it in a well rounded school music program. 851 Music Studio is offering a free class for teachers as a resource to help them present wide variety of curriculum through music featuring the guitar. Please tell any teachers you may know about Guitars In The Classroom G.I.T.C.. Call J. for more information.

Special Offer:
If you have a friend who signs up for lessons this month by August 31. The moment they pay their first tuition check you earn a 50% discount on your next month! Please help us develop musicians and encourage music in our schools and community.

851 Music Studio is the most innovative place to learn music in the North Bay Area and as we enter our fifth year we’d like to say, “THANK YOU!” to all our dedicated families and students. You make us successful. We will be sending an email survey soon to ask you for feedback. Won’t you please take a moment and tell us how we’re doing?

The Guitar Ensemble had a great session today making it through a piece called Minuet by Leopold Mozart. The group aged 9 through 12 had been struggling with their time keeping and today had a breakthrough and locked in together for the first time. With a little effort they might be ready for a performance by June.

The Thursday night jam was great last week with instructor Josh Icban singing Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.” We played about an hour and a half before we noticed the clock and realized how much fun we were having. We look forward to the next jam on Thursday the 12th. The playing is wide open meaning we don’t know what songs we’ll play till we get there. Bass player Don Bassey said he loves getting players together and encouraging them to play freely and drop the preconceptions that arise from paying too much attention to whatever their level of ability is.

What a concept eh? Jeez, who’d have ever been musical in the first place is they we’re worried about how well they were doing it? But I digress.
