Kathryn Shaw

Kathryn Shaw

Kathryn began studying the clarinet with Jan Blais in 2004.
Her high school music experiences include principal clarinetist for the Benicia High School Wind Ensemble, clarinet section leader for the Benicia High School Marching Band, and multiple principal positions in musical productions put on by Benicia High School (Bye Bye Birdie, Seussical, On the Town).

Kathryn spent a year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as a music major. There she studied with Gary Sperl and participated in the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, small ensembles, the opera Street Scene, and the prestigious Pride of the Southland Marching Band.

Kathryn is now back in California, attending college with a different area of focus, but still using her skills on the clarinet to bring joy to her life and others.

“I love getting kids excited about playing music! Sharing what I know with them is great and helping them start their musical journey can be very magical.”

“With music programs disappearing all over the state I feel it is the least I can do to give kids this small taste of the vast musical world that is still out there. They just need a place to get started.”
