
Christian Deardorff
Guitarist Christian Deardorff enjoys teaching students of all ages, abilities and musical backgrounds, and tailors his teaching to meet each student’s individual needs, helping them to develop a technique and a repertoire that is both organic and musical. Mr. Deardorff is passionate about creating enthusiasm for the guitar and a life long love of music for his students.
Originally from Pennsylvania he began his studies in music at age five. After five years of piano, he began his studies in guitar with Randy Gutwein at The Harrisburg Academy. In high school he was a member of the Harrisburg Academy jazz band, which gave regular concerts and toured in Germany during the summer of 2000 and was a member of the Central Pennsylvania youth orchestra, which performed for jazz festivals in the central Pennsylvania area, and awarded him a scholarship to pursue his studies in music.
Mr. Deardorff studied jazz guitar with Boston Berklee School of Music graduate Mark Focazio, and Classical guitar with Dickinson College faculty member Jim Hontz, and during summers attended The National Guitar Workshop and Bowdoin Summer Music Festival, studying with Julian Gray, John Holmquist, Dennis Koster, and Ricardo Iznaola.
At age 18 he performed on the National Public Radio program “From the Top,” which showcases young talented performers. He graduated with honors from University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music with a B.A. in Music under the tutelage of Ricardo Iznaola. During his undergraduate work Mr. Deardorff was also performing frequently with the San Diego Symphony, and the San Diego Opera.
Mr. Deardorff finished his Masters in Music in guitar performance at University of Southern California, primarily studying with the chair of the classical guitar department James Smith, and flamenco guitar with Adam Del Monte.
